Some important things to note as we discuss potential general election in autumn:
1. PM cannot just call a general election.
2. MPs must consent to an early election under Fixed-term Parliaments Act.

4. If PM wants to stop MPs from preventing a No Deal Brexit PM may seek to prorogue Parliament following European Council meeting in mid-October.
5. To prevent PM proroguing MPs must vote on a motion of no confidence. If under the FTPA a two week window to form unity Govt. 2/

6. PM might seek prorogation to prevent unity government being formed. But a PM without confidence has no constitutional authority to advise Queen.

8. If no unity government formed MPs would need to try and legislate to require PM to seek an Art 50 extension.
9. But keep in mind this. The single priority of the PM is to leave the EU because once it’s done it may never be undone. He may lose a subsequent election but the U.K. would no longer be an EU Member State. Elections come and go. EU membership doesn’t. ENDS/
