The deaths of leaders like Sushma Swaraj, Manohar Parrikar, Ananth Kumar - all of whom were in their 60s (late middle age)- - is a reminder to us of our mortality

And of how life expectancy remains stubbornly low in India (mid 60s) notwithstanding considerable economic advance
Life expectancy in India stands at 68.3

But there are several countries much poorer than us, that have higher life expectancies

Nepal - 69.2
North Korea - 70.6
Bangladesh - 71.8
Vietnam - 76.0

Each one of them much poorer than India
In contrast you also have countries much richer than India, and yet have lower life expectancy than us.

South Africa - 62.9
Botswana - 65.7

But these are rare. India clearly is underperforming
Low life expectancy has many costs ofcourse

The most notable of which, in my view, is - Kids experiencing death of loved ones very early in their lives

And not spending much time with their grandparents
