My issue with red flag laws is pretty simple. Once, several years ago, I had a group of people who didn't want me around anymore because I was into firearms. They said they found me threatening.

The problem with that?

1/
I'd never threatened anyone. I shot competitions. I never even talked about using a gun in self-defense.

The mere fact I *had* guns was enough to trigger outrage and for people to feel threatened.

2/
With red flag laws, those very same people could have reported me, had my guns taken away, all because of their own issues.

I get wanting to stop mass shootings. Everyone wants to stop those.

But red flag laws create a lot of problems.

Success is measured by how many times they're used, not in how actually effective they are. Well, how many good, decent people got caught up in this because someone didn't like that they had guns?

Nope. Sorry. That ain't gonna fly with me.
