Agree it’s an important paper. Remember folk have been raising concerns on this study both at the time and since. Critics and victims struggle to tell stories of abuse and unethical practices in academia. Things shouldn’t become true only when published in a prestigious journal
This paper by Jacy L Young and Peter Hegarty entitled “Reasonable men: Sexual harassment and norms of conduct in social psychology” gives a perspective of everyone knowing research and researchers are bad but nothing getting done journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…
Is this a problem with psychology? Yes - and no. Psychology certainly has an issue with predatory and abusive behaviour plus ethically dubious research. But then so 👏 does 👏 EVERY 👏 academic 👏 discipline 👏
Be aware not everyone focused on the “replication crisis” or other problems with psychology are acting with good intentions. They may be dissing psychology in order to perpetuate ableism, sexism, homophobia and white supremacy.
A giveaway for this is white dudes saying “whoa i found a problem with psychology” while ignoring or not even knowing minorities and marginalised communities have been saying this *for years*.
Our job is not just to painstakingly document and expose abuse, fraud and other unethical practices across *all disciplines*. But to note how these are not past problems. They’re happening now and we should be tackling them now, not formalising them in print four decades hence
Btw the above is a general critique not dismissing the papers cited above that are important and necessary.

TL;DR entitled and privileged white dudes mess up research and we need to stop excusing and citing them.
