Supposed Tom and Linda are married. Gary is a friend of both. Gary is also Linda’s ex. They had sex, years ago.
Now suppose I report “Gray went to Tom and Linda’s house today while Tom was out, and Gary and Linda had sex.”
It’s a true statement. I just leave out “years ago”.

But by not supplying the referent group, the natural implication I give is you are card-carrying member of the EDL, which I doubt.
