Court cases, without full House impeachment and arrest powers backing them up, won't work, because "winning" the case just means Barr gets ordered by a judge to enforce a court order on himself, which he will decline to do, and dare anyone to do anything about.
Once somebody's like "I don't answer to anyone but Trump, not even the intelligence services, who I will be investigating for disloyalty to Trump," they're not going to go "Curses! Foiled by that judge! Guess I have to obey this paper!"
If we wait too long, Trump will do things like his planned EO to give FCC power over Twitter and facebook. Some crony will decide what's allowed to be said. Then how will we know where to gather with the pitchforks and torches?

I...I really can't believe I have to say this, but no, my fellow Democrats, starting concentration camps is not legal. It's not just a bad thing that's technically legal, it's not legal. It violates child welfare laws, health laws, the 8th Amendment, all our human rights treaties
Just because the president ordered ICE to do it, doesn't mean it's legal. They're all breaking the law, together.
Putting someone, and their children, in a concentration camp as punishment for a misdemeanor violation like illegal entry or overstaying a visa, is exactly what the Founders meant by "cruel and unusual punishment". #ImpeachTrump

There seems to be a huge disconnect on the right between the Wolf of Wall Street types and the Evangelical types, over how to respond to Alyssa Milano. They're shouting both "You're hairy anyway!" and "Everyone should be celibate anyway!"
This is one of those days it's helpful to remember that the modern GOP is a shaky coalition of three very different groups: the wealthy, the ideologically white supremacist, and the Evangelical.

One of the wisest things I learned on Twitter from Black Feminists is: if terrible people pressure you to placate them? You can be okay with them just staying mad.
It seems so simple when you just say it like that, but, we're so conditioned to feel anxiety when rich white men are angry, it was like a revelation.
And, they CAN just, stay mad, and feel that for the rest of their lives, while we outvote them again and again and change the world in ways they very much do not like, and that is not our problem.

First, let's state the obvious:

Donald Trump's entire presidency is an impeachable offense, an affront to basic human values, an insult to common sense and common decency, a threat to the rule of law.

He has violated the emoluments clause of the Constitution by using the office to enrich himself and his family.

It's time I had my say about #Impeachment, DJT's obstructionistic tactics, and @SpeakerPelosi's not pushing for an inquiry yet.

When AG Barr released the redacted version of the report to Congress, he did *not* include any of the underlying documents on which Mueller relied.

Just like a lawsuit, a case has to be built based on facts and evidence. Both the Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee have been working their way through the system, including voting to hold AG Barr in Contempt of Congress. DJT has been fighting them in court.

Meanwhile, the Ways and Means Committee has also been working on getting DJT's tax returns. One of the Committees has also been working on getting records subpoenaed from DJT's financial management firm and from Deutche Bank, known for Russian money laundering.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.

2. As with most issues before Congress, substance and politics are closely related but distinguishable. As to substance, the argument -- persuasive to me -- is that obstruction of justice, contacts with Russians seeking to influence a US election, corruption and the rest...
3...will do mortal damage to American democracy if tolerated. Not proceeding toward impeachment proceedings means tolerating all of these things, though it is possible to deceive oneself on that point. The political argument @NateSilver538 makes is about American voters.
