Burnett explains how the smally number of legal immigrants receiving help--fewer than 8%--are actually the working poor in most instances. She says that even undocumented immigrants are paying into the system even though they can't access the system.
Espaillat says the administration is characterizing immigrants as lazy and non-working and trying to pit them against other workers, particularly other working class people.
