'A spherical earth is held in space by an intrinsic force'

@HRDMinistry statement is not factually wrong.
While we were discussing Gravity & inventing Calculus, Europeans were still holding onto the 'Flat Earth theory' & the clumsy Roman numerals which was useless for higher math. It is very much possible that the discoveries of the Aryabhata school travelled to Europe through Arabs.
We know for a fact that there were Europeans before Newton who discussed Gravity. Galileo was one. This shows that scientific ideas and manuscripts were slowly permeating through Europe via Arabs and Jesuits over MANY centuries. Newton benefitted from the inputs of both sources.
So, @ShekharGupta, the old Nehruvian game of mocking everything Indian for petty politics will no longer sell. You should attempt to be a little more informed before you ridicule the Siddhanta texts. You are a journalist after all.
Correction- Flat Earth theory had already been abandoned in Europe by the middle ages. It seems to have been an independent development which preceeded the reconquista and the inflow of Arab manuscripts and Indic knowledge. However there are no primary sources for Ptolemy.
