I say this before reading the article; i freely admit I’m interacting only with the headline, but:

The Tea Party got exactly what it wanted.

If they didn’t get exactly what they wanted, why are they so happy with what they got?
They got Trump. They're delighted.

So:

Did they care about corruption? No.

Did they care about national security? No.

Did they care about terrorist attacks? No.

Did they care about fiscal responsibility? It is to laugh.

They got what they wanted. Trump. They're delighted.
That's the other part of what they wanted; our pain. They wanted our tears to drink, which would seem like a harsh thing to say, but they'll say so themselves, if you ask.

Or even if you don't.

Except the Tea Party got EXACTLY what it wanted because it’s nominal opposition to deficits was a PR cover for standard anti-poor partisan GOP politics. The net result of 2010 takeover was gerrymandering, anti-abortion laws, anti-environmentalism, taking healthcare from millions.
“Tea Party failed because deficits are high” is supposed to be some cool liberal gotcha but it glosses over how astroturfed and phony the whole thing was.

If you follow the people I do on Twitter, it seems as if the whole world is talking about this Pompeo profile in the New Yorker. It's an illusion, of course; in reality, the number of people who would be keenly interested in this is miniscule. I just follow them all on Twitter.
So I read every word of the article, certain I'd figure out why everyone was reading it.

But it bored me. The point seemed to be to recite DC gossip about Pompeo in a slightly supercilious tone. The highlight is the anonymously-sourced quote everyone's Tweeting.
I have no insight, as a result of reading it, into Pompeo. I don't know how he understands the world, why he wanted the job he's doing; how he understands his own change of heart about Trump. Is it sincere? Has he come to like and trust the president? If so, why?
