I feel sci-fi writers let us down failing to predict exactly how much we rely upon our phones. For example, I buy my train ticket on the phone, and the conductor comes by and scans the QR code on my phone with their phone.
I mean, we still have train conductors checking tickets as in the 1800s, so that part hasn't changed. There's no implanted chip that gets scanned automatically by the train. But now it's done with phones.
I'm hanging out in this fancy Victorian hotel writing/coding, and they have classical music playing. Only, it's obvious the music is streaming from their phone, because they just had an incoming call.
So I've been hiking the last three days in the alps, far from civilization. Only LTE is never less than 2 bars and I'm constantly checking Google maps to see where I am.
