Those repeat offenders are already prohibited possessors — meaning it doesn’t matter where or which black market they obtain their weapons from, it’s all still illegal, @LightfootForChi . So what “common sense” legislation will improve your justice system, Mayor?

The reason Mayor @LightfootForChi was so rude responding to @SenTedCruz is because acknowledging Chicago's widely reported problem with repeat offenders and light sentencing lays bare that this is a a problem with her and her party’s leadership — NOT law abiding gun owners.
I won’t respond in kind, Mayor @LightfootForChi , but I will say that it is leadership cowardice to falsely blame innocent, good people for the problems that have long plagued your city because of your party’s incompetency and failed leadership. Do better.

When lawmakers irresponsibly call law-abiding gun owners “terrorists” they’re giving cover to the hateful behavior of their supporters. These are the people who will implement red flag laws. Do you trust these politicians — the ones calling you “terrorists” — with your freedom?
To the Republicans considering Red Flags — this system has already been abused ( townhall.com/tipsheet/bethb… ). Can you look voters in the eye and promise the lawmakers calling us “terrorists” won’t abuse the Red Flag system? Can you justify removing our due process for it?
The same people beating folks just for wearing MAGA hats, the ones who justify it, the ones who call Antifa a “great cause,” the ones doxxing and targeting people over donations want a national registry & removal of due process from innocent Americans. Where do you stand, GOP?

Looking at @GregAbbott_TX ’s executive orders in the wake of Midland and Odessa … No.8 hits at what I’ve mentioned these last couple of years. Noncompliance in reporting prohibited cases is a huge issue, so this one is a positive step.
I hope this also includes educating people as to the legal options available to have someone rendered ineligible without the redundancy of proposals that simply repeat an existing process but with the absence of due process.
I am curious about oversight of this and what will be considered “threatening" — considering that simple disagreement on policy is classified as “threatening" by partisan government officials.

The question now is whether the seller was eligible (legal) to sell. Also why did the murderer fail his previous background check if his criminal record doesn’t list any prohibitions? Legal private sales are sales that also pass BGCs.
Additionally, legal private sales are not shown to contribute to homicide w illegally possessed firearms, however studies indicated black market (illegal private) sales responsible bjs.gov/content/pub/pd…
Remember: A criminal act is NOT a loophole.
Another Q — and hopefully we will get answers on this soon — if the murderer was denied via his previous background check, why? If a falsified 4473, why was he not arrested and charged?

I grew up in a small town in Utah where hunting was a big deal. We’d get out of school for the annual deer hunt. My best friend (who was also the prom queen) had her own gun cabinet. My brothers got BB guns when they joined Cub Scouts.
So while I’m not a gun owner and don’t want to be, I’ve always tried to be supportive of gun rights.

That has changed.

I’ve come to believe a gun ban in the U.S. is inevitable.

2016 CDC budget :

$50,000: to track data on all injuries nationwide, including firearm-related ones.

$11 million: for research and prevention of arthritis 

$6 million for research into prion disease, a fatal illness that affects an estimated 300 people each year.
