Returning to Yvette Herrell is the devil, we have a part 2! This time, I’m going to venture into the domain of her background, some Twitter posts and a little more legislation. I don’t really visit facebook or instagram, however. Even so, should suffice.🧵 1/
First, we should recognize that she is among the “thoughts and prayers” crowd. Thinking of how to profit off this tragedy, and praying for another shooting to blame on Democrats in some fashion, most likely.

Republicans like Hawley continue to smear Judge Jackson’s record using thoroughly debunked misrepresentations about her sentencing record. Yet recently, they missed a real opportunity to stand up for survivors of sexual abuse—reauthorizing #VAWA. (thread)…
Less than two weeks ago, many Republican Senators in the room today joined Senator Hawley in voting against a legislative package that included a reauthorization and update of the Violence Against Women Act—a law that protects and assists victims of sexual and domestic violence.
When the cameras are on, some Republicans like Hawley make grand claims about protecting survivors—at Judge Jackson’s expense.

Bipartisan language in the newly introduced Senate version of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2022 would give expanded powers to state and local prosecutors to pursue domestic abusers who possess firearms illegally.

🧵 Here’s how:…
A 2021 Reveal investigation found that domestic violence gun homicides surged 58% over the last decade.

Many of those victims were killed by abusers who were prohibited from having guns.…
The pandemic has been an especially lethal period for abuse victims: Gun homicides involving intimate partners rose a stunning 25% in 2020 compared with the previous year, to the highest level in almost three decades. Women accounted for more than two-thirds of the victims shot

on #WomensEqualityDay, I'd like to remind you all the ways Trump has failed women and made life more dangerous for us and how Biden will be a champion for us.

Trump has tried to rip away health care benefits & protections for millions of women. In
the middle of a pandemic, Trump is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down Obamacare,
which would allow insurers to deny women coverage because of pregnancy or pre-existing
Trump rolled back protections from discrimination/harassment in the workplace. He revoked the Obama-Biden Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces executive order,
which required that federal contractors comply w/ labor, wage an hour, family & medical
leave, safety & health, and civil rights

@morningmika @JoeBiden So there’s a lot to unpack here.

First of all, if #BelieveWomen isn’t tempered with basic common sense, then it’s simply blind dogma, and thus quite dangerous and subject to horrible abuses, as I’ve said long before I ever heard the name Tara Reade.

Let’s compare the
@morningmika @JoeBiden cases of Biden and Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh: despite being an only marginally well known public figure prior to his nomination, he had not one but multiple accusers. His known, documented behavior, not to mention his judicial actions, all point to a distinct lack of respect for
@morningmika @JoeBiden women in general. Every chance he’s given to rule on women’s rights and their fundamental freedoms and right to bodily autonomy, he’s proven that he believes they deserve none of those.

We must also consider the consistency of the narrative around his behavior. Very different

Last yr, the Violence Against Women Act expired—& the House passed its reauthorization *290* days ago. Sen Republicans have blocked it.

In those 290 days, an estimated:
- 496 women were shot & killed by partners
- 5.3M kids exposed to domestic violence
- 22 trans people murdered
During the 290 days Sen Republicans have blocked #VAWA—100s of Native American women & girls were murdered or went missing—but we don't know just how many.

That's why Congress must also pass Savanna's Act—to gather this data & address our #MMIWG epidemic.…
Can you tell @senatemajldr Mitch McConnell & Sen Republicans to stop stalling & pass the Violence Against Women Act *and* Savanna's Act?

Help save lives—call (202) 224-3121 & tell them to pass #HR1585 & #S227.

Welcome to the Member of Congress Tracking Report for the week ending November 10, 2019. With Congress on recess this week, we are going to do things a bit differently this week. We are going to take a dive into #McConnellsGraveyard.
#MoCTrack 1/33
#GOP keeps trotting out their tired talking point about the “do-nothing-Dems” and all we can concentrate on is #Impeachment.

What you’ll find below are 30 bills of the 300+ that #McConnell has stalled in the Senate.

#MoCTrack #DemCast 2/33…
HR 1 - #ForThePeople

A bill that would improve voting rights, fix campaign finance regulations, and mandate ethics and accountability reforms.

.@realDonaldTrump and Republicans in Washington want you to think Democrats can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.

But we’ve been fighting #ForThePeople since Day One.

The House-passed legislation piling up outside @SenateMajLdr McConnell’s office proves it.
@realDonaldTrump @senatemajldr The scores of bills we’ve passed aren’t busy work.

If passed into law, they will improve the lives of Americans across the country & build a better future for generations to come.

But the @SenateGOP has made the cynical decision to ignore it all.
Some key examples?

H.R. 7, the #PaycheckFairness Act, would ensure equal pay for women nationwide.

Meanwhile, the #ForThePeople Act would enact the most ambitious set of democracy reforms and ethics standards in a generation.

ICYMI: It was reported today that the Deputy Attorney General and the Secretary of Transportation appear to have been coordinating with the McConnell-aligned Super PAC, Senate Leadership Fund. (1)
The Secretary of Transportation is married to Mitch McConnell, who’s prohibited by law from coordinating with Senate Leadership Fund. Elaine Chao, however, is not, although any coordination on her husband’s behalf would seem to contravene the FEC Act’s intent. (2)

The report specifically cites meetings between Elaine Chao, her then-deputy (now DAG) Jeffrey Rosen, and Steven Law, who chairs Senate Leadership Fund and the dark money 501(c)(4), One Nation, which feeds millions of dollars to Senate Leadership Fund. (3)

One of the bills sitting untouched in the Senate because the gun lobby objects to it is the Violence Against Women Renewal Act of 2019.

It's important to understand what #VAWA does to see just how much the @NRA has corrupted @senatemajldr. Thread (1/7)
#VAWA expired in 2018 after the @GOP leadership in both the House and the Senate refused to take it up. Originally enacted in the 1990s, studies showed that "the rate of intimate partner violence against females declined 53% between 1993 and 2008" (2/7)…
#VAWA required reauthorization every 5 years. For more than two decades, this was accomplished, with improvements made along the way.

Until 2018, when two common-sense changes to the bill sent the gun lobby into a tizzy and the @GOP refused to reenact it. (3/7)
