As we are a tiny but respected volunteer org w/o lawyers on retainer, our only option is to call out the biomedical curbie org @tweetingautism for trying to co-opt "Thinking Person’s Guide to Autism" with their non-evidence-based take on what autism is:

More info on TweetingAutism’s curebie agenda: they're "Former Andrew Wakefield apologists, now promoting cure-oriented autism pseudoscience for treating the "core symptoms" of autism. Scare-mongers about autism "risk factors" despite evidence autism is both genetic & inborn.” 1/2
TweetingAutism/“Thinking Autism” (UK) also "Inaccurately & dehumanizingly describes autism as a 'severe neurodevelopmental disorder that places an enormous burden on affected individuals and their families, and society as a whole.’

Right now, @poormagazine is working on building housing in East Oakland.
@poormagazine There is basically no low-income housing any more. Leroy Moore feels like he’s hanging on by a thread, and he’s not alone. When 45 pushes to exterminate housing programs, the only person who came out against it was @RepMaxineWaters.
@poormagazine @RepMaxineWaters And it’s not just housing. IDEA, funding for special education, had NEVER been fully Federally funded. People with disabilities of all ages remain under attack in the US.

Listening to @SFdirewolf talk (with a dash of salt) about why needing supports doesn’t negate innate independence & autonomy. And how public funding of supports keeps PWD like her in the community, & out of institutions. Even when it’s not easy—& she still feels vulnerable.
@SFdirewolf @sfdirewolf: The annual redetermination process is laced with anxiety for people who depend on it. And it is a poverty trap! She can’t earn more than $2K (<2.5x the poverty level) without losing benefits. So she has to pass on paying opportunities all the time.
@SFdirewolf ...This is not in keeping with the spirit of the Olmstead decision, e.g., a lot of disabled people do not have the freedom to move between states, because anchored to state-specific benefits.

1. Do not challenge or question a person's diagnosis of #autism, unless you are very close and well meaning. There is little more hurtful than this simple act of distrust. /2

Today an article about the 'over-diagnosis' of #autism was published in the @guardian in which the concept of neurodiversity was dismissed as a fad, a fashion, an empty philosophy. As someone who believes that the concept of neurodiversity is a valuable one, I must respond. /2
Neurodiversity is the name given to the conceptualisation of neurological differences being non-pathological. So, autism, adhd, OCD, dyslexia etc are simply varieties of neurology rather than diseases. /3

0/ #CO is poised to join #WY in providing safe harbor from securities laws for consumptive tokens. #MT also introduced a similar bill. I want to highlight why I think this is important and what points I hope the SEC considers as it prepares additional guidance.
1/ This legislation builds on a core idea from #WY: It must be possible for entrepreneurs to develop and sell software that is inherently consumptive in nature (i.e., not a passive financial instrument and intrinsically is for use/consumption) w/o implicating securities laws.
2/ The SEC seems to agree and so have regulators/policymakers in just about every other developed nation. The difficulty arises, however, in defining the boundaries of this principle - stated differently, when if ever is usable software actually a security?

My son Jared turns 8 in May. He's a joy. His smile is infectious, he's really good with numbers, he is a great big brother to his two little sisters, he LOVES ketchup, and he also happens to be on the #autism spectrum.

I can't speak for every parent of a child on the #autism spectrum, but getting through the "now" isn't what scares me. We have an amazing support group of family, teachers, and doctors. We might be tired (It's not "the sun" waking up the roosters, it's MY son), but we get by.

Tomorrow scares me. Between 75-85% of adults w/#autism are unemployed. After years of saying "No" when we would ask him what he wants to be when he grows up, now Jared says he wants to be a postman (And I love it😊). But the odds are NOT in his favor.
