BREAK: THE AIR FORCE has just confirmed to us that seven C-17 crew members stayed at Turnberry in March. Air Force ops & spending in Scotland are still under investigation, a spokesman said, and a response to House Oversight is not immediately forthcoming. politico.com/amp/story/2019…
The spokesman also said that, at the time, Turnberry was “the closest available and least expensive accommodations to the airfield within the crews’ allowable hotel rates.” We have not independently verified that claim and haven’t seen the records cited by USAF.
The Times reported today that Trump Turnberry was giving a discount to the military for staying at the hotel. We have not yet confirmed that, but it could explain why the rates were potentially lower, if true.
Regardless, the military has been spending money at Trump’s resort, as confirmed to us today. More to come...

Maguire essentially gave DOJ the final word on this when he got them involved, per @thejimbaker. “Now that DOJ has opined, that’s the law for the executive branch. As a technical matter, the inspector general has to fall in line.” He appeared to do that today before HPSCI.

We've confirmed that there's been a postponement, but are told the extension to the current contract was signed on August 28, nearly 2 weeks before the Air Force launched its internal review and before the House's inquiry gained steam following our reporting on overnight stays.
A spokesman for the Defense Logistics Agency, which signed the deal w/Prestwick in 2016, said they "anticipate awarding a long-term contract" to Prestwick "by end November 2019."
According to the agency, postponing the signing of a new refueling contract with Prestwick didn't have to do with the relevant investigations--and they plan to go ahead, by the end of November, with extending the contract through 2024.

NEW: Air Force crews—totaling more than 60 service members—have stayed overnight at Turnberry on least 4 occasions, 2 more than previously reported. Prestwick Airport arranged for free rides to & from the resort—and packed lunches!—on at least 1 occasion. politico.com/story/2019/09/…
The crew member I spoke to called it “odd” how Prestwick appeared to arrange logistics in a way the Air Force usually would. The airport, which has seen a dramatic uptick in US military plane stopovers, even booked the rooms at Turnberry, they said.
A spokesman for the airport did not dispute that recollection. “Like all airports, we provide a full handling service for customers and routinely arrange overnight accommodation for visiting aircrew when requested,” the spokesman told POLITICO. politico.com/story/2019/09/…
