This excerpt-ish piece from Paul Tough's new book has me encouraged about its contents. It also includes my favorite admissions iconoclast, @JonBoeckenstedt nytimes.com/interactive/20…
@JonBoeckenstedt It's interesting to think about the shift in Tough's focus when it comes to education. His first books on Geoffrey Canada and the How Children Succeed argued that there were pedagogical solutions to achievement and advancement.
@JonBoeckenstedt But the last two, Helping Children Succeed and the new one seem clearly focused on systemic inequalities. Helping Children Succeed even seemed like an explicit corrective to How Children Succeed.
@JonBoeckenstedt I've been critical because everything discussed in Helping Children Succeed was known at the time of How Children Succeed, but the shift is notable and I think admirable. I'd love to have an interviewer ask about this. Maybe me? Probably not.
