My good friend @aparanjape has reminded us that today is the 48th death anniversary of the writer, sociologist and educationist Iravati Karve. He has nudged me to attempt a Twitter thread on this great scholar
Iravati Karve was born in Burma, where her father worked. She was named after the river Irrawaddy. She later married Dinakar Karve, son of the social reformer D. K. Karve and brother of the great R. D. Karve (who Dr Ambedkar defended in court when he was accused of obscenity)
Iravati Karve was a pioneering sociologist, anthropologist, Indologist. She was a student of G. S. Ghurye in Mumbai. His other brilliant female student was Durgabai Bhagwat. Iravatibai later did her PhD in Germany.

@zeevs First, let’s rewind the timelines a little, and have a look at history. I hate the past and history, but as pure facts, it sometimes is needed.
@zeevs PHP emerged in its raw, primitive form, circa 1994. It’s now 25 years old. The first idea was to get rid of CGI backends, crashing segfaults, maintenance nightmare, not suited for a web world. All that in the form of scripts, parsed through a slower but safer interpreter.

India (Bhārat), aka Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya) constitutes a mosaic of paradoxes and contradictions starting with the existence of gigantic socio-economic disparities which are in sharp contrast with the spectacular technological development in most productive sectors.
Such contradictions reflect significant measurement discrepancies which, in India's case, could be on the order of hundreds of millions of people.
Furthermore, there is the problem of Islamic terrorists, who are trained abroad and find easy fuel in the contradictions within it.
Finally, there’s agriculture which, by some estimates, accounts for 90% of India’s water consumption. Farmers meet irrigation demands by indiscriminately extracting groundwater, which some say accounts for a quarter of the world’s groundwater usage.

Denying or downplaying the #Holocaust is not new. It has been a recurring theme by AJ arabic since its establishment. 1/
AJ has continued to recycle myth that number of #Holocaust victims is debatable, deny extermination & has accused Zionist movement of benefiting from it.
AJ+, however, always claimed it is different, but n reality, it is run by the same leftists/Islamists who deny Holocaust 2/
What I find hilarious is how some top Israeli journalists have convinced themselves for years that appearing in AJ will help bringing peace and fight antisemitism.

Breaking: Large terrorist attack in #India. More than 40 Indian Reserve Police Force personnel were killed and many others injured when Pakistani backed terrorists targeted a convoy with a car bomb at Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir's today, ndtv.com/india-news/15-…
Reports suggested that the vehicle used by the terrorists was a Mahindra Scorpio carrying more than 350 kg of explosives in what is the worst attack ever on security personnel in the state.
Sources said that terrorists triggered the car bomb while 78 vehicles with over 2,500 reserve police men were on the Srinagar-Jammu highway. The stretch on which the incident occurred had been sanitized in the morning & authorities called it a serious breach of security.
