The BMC bots are crowding my mentions, so let me state my positions.

1. Taxation is a valid way to raise Govt revenue.

2. We’re the poverty capital of the world. Instead of VAT that disproportionately targets the poor and discourages consumption, hit us with a luxury tax.

3. I think the fuel subsidy is a scam. Remove it. Dangote’s refinery will not result in lower prices unless he gets a subsidy from the Govt.

4. Use the subsidy savings for the minimum wage, debt, infrastructure, education and health. You can even keep your social investment prog

5. Widen the tax net, so more people are paying tax, instead of burdening the few people that currently do.

6. Stop fucking attacking private businesses. They are literally the engine of economic growth. When they grow and employ more people, you earn more income & company tax.

7. Maybe most importantly, understand how tax works. Understand the impact it has on people. Understand that there is zero trust in Govt’s ability to use the proposed new taxes in a productive way.

(And please, because of God, never say publicly that poor people are not affected by VAT). 🙃
