"Video cassettes are now under development. They would make it possible for you to play tapes of many different kinds of programs on your home T.V. (television) screen, much as you play records on your phonograph today.... How likely is it that you would buy such a system[?]"
"Do you think you will or will not make* a personal computer in your home ten years from now?"

*I don't know either
"How much would you miss your CD-ROM drive, if you no longer had one... a lot, some, not much, or not at all?"
"Did you report the theft of...the phonograph...to the police?"
"How much would you miss your fax machine, if you no longer had one...a lot, some, not much, not at all? "
"Is the phone you're using now a touch tone phone or does it have a rotary dial?"
"Do you think that people who use cellular phones in their cars really need them, or do you think they just like to play with new gadgets?"
"Old technology polls" is really maybe my favorite historical survey genre.
"Assuming that such a machine existed and that you owned one, how likely would you be to call back someone who wanted you to participate in a survey?"
"Looking at it realistically, is... a color TV (television) set... something you would want and think you will have, is it something you want but don't think you will ever have, or is it something you do not want?"
(If it is not obvious for some reason, the only point I'm building to with this thread is that historical surveys are an amazing snapshot of other slices of time, and new technology is a great touchstone for watching attitudes change. Also...purloined phonographs! I mean.)
"Do you currently use...a beeper or pager? Currently use, do not use but expect to use by 2000, do not currently use/won't use by 2000"
"(Please rate each technology's appeal to you on a scale of 1 to 7, where 7 means 'wow, very appealing' and 1 means, 'ho-hum, not appealing.')...PVR (TiVo/replay)"
