New HuffPost/YouGov poll: Impeachment support grows after Pelosi backs inquiry, due mainly to change among Dems.

Notably, support for impeachment in general (47/39) outweighs support for impeachment specifically due to the Ukraine call (39/38).

Why? There's still a lot of confusion about both impeachment and Ukraine.
Only about half the public knows a vote to impeach would lead to a trial in the Senate. Only 37% say they've heard a lot about Ukraine phone call.
In this sort of environment, partisan cues are REALLY important. About three-quarters of Democrats now say that they believe most or all congressional Democrats support impeachment, up from 59% who said the same earlier this month.
Here's a look at the partisan divides the Ukraine call.

IMPORTANT caveat: Trying to gauge public opinion about a poorly understood, fast-moving story rarely lends itself to easy takeaways.

Polling released this week on the impact of impeachment has varied a LOT -- I summarize in my story.

But it's worth noting that the two polls fielded entirely Tuesday (formal inquiry day) or later -- ours and Politico/Morning Consult's -- both find shifts, suggesting that was something of an inflection point.
There's a lot more in the crosstabs, so have at it.

Also at the risk of threadception, I'm tracking other polling as it comes in here:
Will say that based on the three or so polls(!) that have come out just since I filed this story today, I'm increasingly confident that there has been a shift on impeachment, and that timewise, it's more tied to announcement Dem inquiry than whistleblower story breaking.
