Fifty-six years ago, September 15, 1963, these four girls were killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing, a domestic act of terror perpetrated by the KKK.
At 10:21 a.m., dynamite exploded.

Addie's sister Susan survived but was permanently blinded.

This was not unlike the Charleston SC church shooting of 2015, although it was far less personal.

Birmingham was the most segregated city in the US in 1963. Since its construction in 1911, 16th Street Baptist served as the cultural center for the city's African American community.

Two months later - November 22, 1963 - JFK would be assassinated.

One man was convicted 14 years later, in 1977.

Doug Jones, now US Senator from Alabama, brought two additional men to justice, DECADES after the bombing.

My native South has much to atone for.

1. Show me any research, please, where a “plant-based” diet ALONE has reduced the risk of cancer by 50%.
And what do you mean by “plant-based diet”? Vegan is a common connotation. There is no agreement on what this phrase means.

And we have a complex digestive system because we eat flesh and plant.

Note that SOY is a dominant plant protein, mimics estrogen and is not recommended for estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer patients.

Most of us in the US have not been fed soy since birth.

I don’t “do” video or cable guys. But this is important.

This clip should be required viewing in every history class in America. TY @chrislhayes and your research team.
As a native of south Georgia, I can assure you I did not learn the history of the KKK at school.

What I did learn was how evil the federal government was during Reconstruction.
Instead of the history of the KKK, I learned about “carpetbaggers" and "scalawags,” white people seeking justice for former slaves.

Today is "Earth Overshoot Day," which supposedly marks when humankind starts using more resources than the planet can provide.

It — and the "Ecological Footprint" theory it's based upon — are pseudoscientific nonsense.

Six years ago I helped debunk Earth Overshoot Day and the Ecological Footprint calculation it's based on upon in a paper for the peer-reviewed scientific journal, PLOS Biology called "Does the Shoe Fit? Real vs. Imagined Footprints."

We broke down the six measures that comprise the Ecological Footprint and found that five of the six, including food and forestry, were either in balance or surplus. The only thing out-of-balance were humankind's carbon emissions.

Among them were documents such as birth certificates and marriage licenses. She asked us, “of all the possessions someone forcibly evicted from their home might take in those last frantic moments, why these?” (2/n)

Six years ago she was getting her last hour of sleep. She would wake up and get ready for work just like it was any other day.

I am grateful to know that she was so happy that morning, playing jokes on her colleague, helping to get a coffee stain out of a sweater
returning a perfectly folded scarf that she borrowed to wear to the winter concert the night before.

Her morning at work would start out like any other. Busy, efficient. She did not know that the PPT meeting would be her last. She heard a noise and silenced the room.
Was that gunshots? Holy shit, it was gunshots! She stood from her chair and walked towards the door of the conference room. She saw the shooter. She turned briefly to warn the others. “SHOOTER, STAY PUT!”
