when I was journaling last night I tried to figure out who my earliest hero was - whether fictional or IRL - and I honestly struggle(d) to find an answer. when I was a kid, I didn’t have any posters or backpacks or pencilcases or anything that might give me some clues to this
I think Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes was one of the first characters that I was drawn to - I read all of it when I was about 9 or 10. Seems suspiciously late. Don’t kids have earlier phases? I was into video game characters before that, I guess... 🤔
I think to assemble a story that makes sense I have to realize that maybe I’ve always preferred thinking about things in a networked way - I’m often more curious about the broader map of relationships than to focus on one single relationship
The first two albums I bought were by Avril Lavigne and Disturbed. Very different vibes. I couldn’t have picked either as a North Star. It’s constellations most of the way down
