I am sitting in my car in tears. . I was driving into town via a back road when I saw an elderly lady walking on the sidewalk in a big red sweater and long pants. She had a phone in her hand, kind of staring at it. It’s 97 degrees ...something seemed very wrong .
I pulled up beside her & asked if I could help her. I saw them she was crying & sweating profusely. She was disoriented. I put her in my car & gave her a bottle of water while I dialed 911. I asked her name and she said Ada. When the dispatcher came on I told her the story and
she said, “Thank goodness! We’ve been poking for her for almost 90 minutes.” She had wandered away from a local residential home & was almost 2 miles away. I sat with her and kept her cool & hydrated while waiting for the police to come. She told me she wanted to go see her
Daughter and lost her way. When the police got to us, her daughter was with them - she was in tears. She told me her mother is 85 years old and has dementia and heart issues. She thought they’d find her dead because of the heat. She hugged me so hard she nearly cracked my ribs!
They got an ambulance there & got Ada to a hospital. Her daughter just called me & said her Mom is going to be okay but had she been out much longer, she would likely have died. That just washed over me as she again thanked me for stopping. So here’s the deal...listen to that
inner voice when it tells you something is wrong. At the worst, she could have told me to buzz off & mind my own business. I believe I was there for a reason. It isn’t my normal route & I have no idea why I decided to go that way today. People of faith will understand that
sometimes God works through others. I think I was that person today. That is a humbling thought. All in all, an amazing and wonderous day.
