The real story today is that a New York grand jury is, by definition, targeting Donald Trump for criminal indictment on state charges.

It doesn’t matter that Manhattan DA Cy Vance is a turd. He’s not running the show. NY Attorney General Tish James is, and she’s fantastic.
The fatalists are already insisting that Cy Vance is using a grand jury to aggressively go after Trump so he can... not go after Trump?

That doesn’t even make sense. But these days the fatalists don’t stop to think it through before instinctively spinning good news into bad.
Back when Cy Vance was declining to indict powerful people in exchange for campaign donations, he was doing it in the dark. No one knew. No one was watching him. Now EVERYONE is watching him. It’s 100% different.
For that matter, Vance is in danger of being indicted himself after Trump is gone, for the alleged bribes he took. Vance’s only way out of this is to prove himself useful enough in taking Trump down, no one prosecutes him afterward.
Vance seems to know it too, which is why he indicted Manafort the minute Manafort’s federal case ended. You think he’ll stop there?

And again, Tish James is running this show. Cy Vance couldn’t magically let Trump off the hook even if he wanted to.
Today’s news confirmed that Trump will spend the rest of his life in prison. His life is over. That’s set in stone. The big question is WHEN Trump will be indicted: now, or a few seconds after he leaves office? If the fatalists when shut up, we could talk about the timing 😁

Memo to the Resistance: stop being so god damn fatalistic. As things keep getting worse for Trump, the fatalists keep yelling more loudly about how he's going to magically get away with it all. That bullshit is toxic. These folks need to shut the fuck up and get out of our way.
Trump is being targeted for indictment by a NY grand jury, and the fatalists are already insisting it'll go nowhere because the Manhattan DA is a turd. But the DA isn't running this show, the NY AG is. The fatalists don't even know what they're talking about most of the time.
These are the same fatalists who have been too busy yelling "impeachment will never even begin" to realize that it already fucking began. It's fucking ridiculous.

Let me emphasize in this case tho, how different, Ms. Horne is from someone like Epstein or Weinstein. It was her struggle with addiction that led her to be caught up in the criminal justice system and she did amazing things while incarcerated including getting treatment.
The issue is that Atlanta's DA Paul Howard is vehemently anti-reform, has argued for leniency for violent offenders only 3 times, there are 3,224 people serving sentences for armed robbery, all of them deserve this consideration. Why did he join in this one motion?

CY VANCE & NEW NY STATE INDICTMENTS ON MANAFORT — JUST A SCAM? (THREAD)

As @maddow would say, I’m not a lawyer. (Not even in the ballpark.) But I do know our Manhattan DA, Cy Vance, and his shady, Trumpy history in NY.

So indulge me while I posit this theory.
2/ Cy Vance is indicting Manafort on some of the exact charges brought up federally: Mortgage Fraud and Conspiracy. Even down to some of the same bank loans.

NY State has a stringent Double Jeopardy statute, beyond any federal protection, which does not allow for this.
3/ In 2012, Vance inexplicably put a stop to a 2-year investigation of the Trump Org.

He ordered his prosecutors to drop the case.

At the same time, he was *receiving reelection donations* from Trump’s lawyers.
