I believe this is what those in addiction recovery refer to as the "bargaining" stage?
This is the sort of solution that people who think the green new deal is "unrealistic" are likely to get behind, for example.

In case you thought their opposition was tied to 'realism.'

Hey but wait hear me out what if we developed a super-powered hypercooling freezer and then somehow removed the whole atmosphere but only for 20 seconds and put the atmosphere in the freezer and then let it out again and we could all hold our breath, that might work, right?

When you read the inevitable pieces about how the younger generations aren't accepting the morals and values of the older generations, you'd better remember that we made them fight us for their lives rather than risk our property values.

They'll remember

Do you expect younger generations to listen to our wisdom, follow our traditions, hew to our values?

As for myself, if we don't start fighting for them as a first priority, regardless of cost, I don't even expect them to attend our funerals.
Greta Thunberg is an inspirational figure, and a familiar one: one who rises to meet a desperate need, while others with more resources and experience won't.

Trump isn’t complex. He’s a dumb thug. He doesn’t know he’s losing at chess because he’s drenching the room in gasoline.
I think Pelosi is a very smart person with many accomplishments, and an admirable figure in many ways, and she has utterly, unforgivably, failed to apprehend this moment, and so now she has to resign, so that someone capable of doing her job can do it, and it’s just that simple.

She is worse than a disaster. She’s a tragedy. She’s chosen to start from a pre-defeated position. She’s wasted a year of a wave election predicted on bringing a corrupt president to account, and she’s fighting to prevent just that. It’s Shakespearean. She has to go.

Warren & Sanders come out hard for decriminalization of illegal immigration, in order to strip the government of tools to stop it.
Bullock actually speaks up for the idea that handing out healthcare & no penalties will draw more people to the border. This is a fringe position now in the Democratic party.
Warren emphasizes standing up for people who overstay student visas.

The core of the Green New Deal - a huge industrial policy push for green energy that will also directly employ a lot of working-class Americans - is a very centrist idea, and not a new idea by any means.
That core idea is a GREAT one. And we absolutely NEED to do it.

But I think we shouldn't package that core idea with pie-in-the-sky income redistribution that has little to do with climate change:

Also note that the Green New Deal has a little-discussed third idea - environmental justice - which is REALLY important, and is the single most under-emphasized idea on the left today.

I’m always struck by ppl who express admiration for those like Douglass & Tubman while labeling policies that attempt to build a more just & moral society “unrealistic.” Do these ppl think abolishing slavery was widespread & popular policy proposal in the 19th century? It wasn’t.
The US had quite literally never existed w/o the institution of slavery alongside it. The first enslaved Africans arrived in 1619 & the US became an independent nation in 1776.

Abolition required imagining a country that had never existed, a radical reconception of the republic.
So when I see ppl who express admiration for something like the abolition of slavery, but who turn around & say that something like The Green New Deal is unrealistic, it seems to demonstrate a lack of understanding of how meaningful social change has ever happened in the country.
