Everything in the world is terrible except that the great @daniellecitron is a MacArthur fellow! I don’t normally kvell but this makes me so freakin’ happy.
A few important things to know about @daniellecitron:
(1) She took on a major set of issues involving online harassment when they were obscure and uncool. A lot of what you may believe about these issues is likely influenced indirectly by her work.
(2) As I say, these issues were deeply uncool when she took them on. They became mainstream only recently, thanks in part to the Trump era.
(3) She is a highly imaginative thinker. I don’t write law review articles. It says a lot about my admiration for her that when she wanted to write one with me about a CDA 230 reform we had drafted on the back of a napkin, I made an exception to what is otherwise a hard rule.
(4) Her work with @BobbyChesney on Deep Fakes is really really important and was very ahead of the game.
(5) She has made me think in a way nobody has before about the relationship between traditional national security legal thought and feminism.
(6) When I and my coauthors were working on a Brookings study of sextortion, she could not have been more helpful and supportive.
(7) She is an uncommonly lovely person.
(8) I could go on but the bottom line is this: The MacArthur Foundation done good on this. Congrats to both @macfound and to Danielle.
