MPs launch bid to impeach Boris Johnson after Supreme Court rules he broke the law -

Impeachment has been considered obsolete.

In this instance I fear it is an excuse to distract from the fact that opposition MPs are not cooperating to dislodge this Gov. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…
Don’t get me wrong.

I want to see justice done to this charlatan. And the rest of his Government.

But the clock is ticking too loudly. We are in grave danger. We need rid of not just Johnson.

He may have forgotten that we watch and he insults us, not just MPs.

This from a Government that has been found to be abusive by the Supreme Court yesterday.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.

2. As with most issues before Congress, substance and politics are closely related but distinguishable. As to substance, the argument -- persuasive to me -- is that obstruction of justice, contacts with Russians seeking to influence a US election, corruption and the rest...
3...will do mortal damage to American democracy if tolerated. Not proceeding toward impeachment proceedings means tolerating all of these things, though it is possible to deceive oneself on that point. The political argument @NateSilver538 makes is about American voters.

1/I know folks are nervous or frustrated with calling for #impeachment. Many would prefer to focus on policy, organizing, and GOTV in 2020. I think we can do both. Also saying, 'We just need to vote Trump out' is not going to be as easy as folks think. Why? Voter Suppression.
