Here’s a fun thought experiment. The identity of the whistleblower is going to be public within the week. I’m just taking that for granted. The identities of the folks at the WH/NSC from whom he was hearing concerns will be, if not public, easy for WH to reverse engineer.
This morning Trump said he thinks the people who talked to the whistleblower—those White House/NSC staff—are traitors who ought to be executed. What incentives do these facts now create for those staffers?
(I can think of several plausible answers; most of them imply things continuing to get more interesting.)

This why one shouldn’t dabble in intelligence law based on random stuff one saw going around on social media. Nothing in the relevant statute (ICWPA) or directives (PPD-19, ICD-120) has ever required that protected whistleblower disclosures contain “firsthand” information.
Apparently one IG disclosure notice someone turned up explains that IG’s standard for assessing whether complaints are sufficiently “credible” to transmit to the DNI, noting that complaints won’t be forwarded based only on secondhand information.
But we already know from the IG’s letters to Maguire and Schiff that he did, indeed, conduct a preliminary investigation to assess credibility, and independently corroborated key elements of the complaint. usnews.com/news/national-…

A couple things. First, I think this is just a mistake. There are significant constitutional problems—both on 1st amdt & vagueness grounds—with construing “thing of value” so broadly it includes any kind of beneficial information. (Favorable media coverage? Praise?)
There may be narrow cases where it makes sense—data sets or information services from an entity that customarily sells those things at a market rate—but expanding it to the point where it covers any derogatory info about an opponent is just wildly untenable.
On that view anything you tell someone on a campaign is potentially a reportable campaign contribution whose monetary value has to be assessed. Nobody actually wants that to be the rule.

I question the public value of reporting this, but frankly, if the Times could figure this out, so could White House staff, which is almost certainly enough to ID the person. The odds Trump doesn’t already know who this is are, unfortunately, somewhere between slim and nil.
Which means it’s down to Gina Haspel to reject the inevitable push for illegal retaliation.
I’ll confess, on initially reading the whistleblower complaint I did a little mental Red Team exercise: If I were the White House, how would I attack this complaint to deanonymize the whistleblower? And my impression was that it would probably be very, very easy.

Here's some fun facts about Turning Point USA (since they got me suspended from Twitter for a week):

The organization exists to push the bullshit agenda that there's a bias against conservatives in college.

It's also largely funded by Charles Koch.
What you may not know is that Charles Koch is a FANATICAL libertarian who believes taking down the government is his divine purpose.

He even laid out a call to action to shift political thinking in higher education back in 1978.

It's a twofold strategy of paying out large grants to universities and colleges that Koch will then revoke if the recipient goes against Koch's political mandates.

The other prong is people like Charlie Kirk to constantly make noise that conservatives are being silenced.

Here's a challenging thought experiment:

What is the most modern technology that you could go back in time the farthest and still make?

Ex: I think I could go back about 500 years and make:

A simple camera.
An electric battery.
An electric guitar (but not an amp).

You?
Thinking about the camera, I think it'd be possible to go back even farther. I think you could go back to the time of the Greeks or Egyptians and possibly make it. I think you could definitely go back 2500 years and create it in China.
So then the followup to this thought experiment is:

If an expert from our time could go back 500, 1000, 2500 years and create a piece of modern tech, then *what* prevented that culture/location from figuring it out? There really isn't much in a camera but, nobody made one.

It’s beyond disgusting that my entire Facebook feed is currently full of coworkers sharing which banks, mortgage companies, and other creditors are allowing deferred payments and refunding interest or late fees.
These are highly trained, aviation safety professionals who have dedicated their life to public service and they’re spending their little time away from work calling their creditors and asking for help. Is this how the government values our importance? I’ve never been so ashamed.
And here’s a fun thought experiment: What happens when a bunch of federal employees who defaulted on payments because they stopped getting paid can’t renew their security clearance when it comes due because of bad credit? The impacts of this are incredibly far reaching.

having been both characters in this story (the "man" who never asks questions and the "woman" who is never asked), i think i know what's going on and it's way more systemic than just dating. here we go!
spoiler: capitalism is causing mass social dysfunction and it's killing both us and the planet. meanwhile, the centralized paradigm of thinking it induces is preventing the men trapped inside from being able to recognize the problem.
before people complain about me singling out men: this is a direct result of how gender roles are fabricated and people are socialized into them. the problem i'm describing affects peoples' minds differently based on the gender role society perceives them as fulfilling
