It is quite possible this is all a negotiating ploy, but it's crazy to remember that DTV reupping Sunday Ticket was a condition that AT&T fought for, and won, as a condition to close the DTV acquisition. wsj.com/articles/direc…

Stankey now says "Sunday Ticket's value to the company has peaked" and "There's less profitability to support the decision".
Sunday Ticket loses at least $500M. Let's say a DTV sub generates $600/year in GP. They would have to lose 850K subs out of the 2M Sunday Ticket subscribers to justify the losses.
anyway, it's strategery all the way down so trying to make sense of any of this is a waste of time
