You know, it says a lot that even after all of this, no one in the police department or the mayor is calling for the police officer's arrest record to be examined. Is anyone considering that maybe the city commissioner was right? nyti.ms/2oa8mLa
Commissioner Gelin was arrested for filming police officers arresting someone else. He was then charged with resisting arrest.
Prosecutors dismissed those charges when they viewed video from his cell phone.

It was a wrongful arrest.
And do I need to go into the history of racism and brutality within the Broward County Sheriff's Department? You know the one where three sheriff's deputies slammed a Black child's head into the concrete and then charged him with assault? nymag.com/intelligencer/…
That incident also occurred during the arrest of someone else. The child whose head they slammed into concrete was merely trying to pick up the cell phone of another child they were arresting so it didn't get lost.
There is so much power in that moment when Commissioner Gelin takes that microphone.

But that cop is still on the streets with a badge and a gun. And as much love as is being show Commissioner Gelin right now, you don't think the cop is getting a ton of fan mail?
And when this moment is over, the cop will still be on the streets. So let's look at Sheriff's Deputy Joshua Gallardo's arrest records, his disciplinary history, whatever information we can obtain. Let's write the mayor, the police department.
Because we know Commissioner Gelin is not the only person Deputy Gallardo improperly wielded his badge and gun over. And without something being done he's not gonna be the last.
