Labour party members have been barracking the press for their bias since the days of the Zinoviev letter, which I'm pretty sure predates Trump. What's novel is the tendency for conservatives, who have long enjoyed sympathetic coverage, to do so too.
This isn't because the press has become more critical of the right (ownership & the spectrum of opinion have both narrowed & shifted rightwards), & nor is it because the "liberal" media are less sympathetic to rightwing policies (see their qualified support of austerity).
It's because of the division of the press into partisan camps, which originates in the US in the 80s with media deregulation. The right monopolised insurgent radio & cable TV (coz it had the money), which required it to characterise the established media as "liberal".
Much of the contemporary "culture war" is just a fight for market-share. Much of the supposed crisis of incivility on social media is just journos winding-up the public to generate clicks (I am aware of the irony that I'm RTing a journo).
