Davis Knight always thought he was a white man until, one night in 1958, Ellisville Police arrested him for the sin of marrying a blond-haired white woman. A court sentenced him to 5 years in prison. His great great grandmother, it turned out, was black.

Davis Knight was the grandson of Newt & Rachel Knight. During the Civil War, Newt Knight led Jones County, MS, in seceding from the Confederacy, creating the "Free State of Jones." Newt later married Rachel, on of his grandfather's former slaves, and had children with her.
Back in 1958, Mississippi law considered anyone a "negro" by law if they had even ⅛ black blood. The fact that Davis Knight was at least ⅞ white didn't matter. The Mississippi Supreme Court overturned the conviction, saying there wasn't enough evidence he was ⅛ black.

I can't help but think that, in a nation that placed greater value on the lives of babies & children (not just pre-birth), this would've been the horrifying impeachment story.

Ukraine & Russia make me worry about our democracy.

Kids in cages makes me worry about our humanity.
And even the likes of Ron Johnson and Gym Jordan wouldn't go on Sunday shows to defend it.

SAN DIEGO – Tyler Carender was sentenced in federal court today to 10 years in prison for damaging & destroying buildings at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church & Oak Crest Middle School in Encinitas on 3 separate occasions in the fall of 2016, by means of fire and an explosive device.
Carender was arrested in July 2017 at his home on Island View Lane in Encinitas, which is adjacent to Oak Crest Middle School and about 400 yards from the church. He pleaded guilty on March 9, 2018 to all three arson-related charges in the indictment.
