Evergreen comment on Jacob Wohl's latest fake scandal.
Can I just say... how tame is Wohl and Burkman's imagination, that the "twisted BDSM relationship" that will "shock the conscious of the nation" was... some flogging and a threesome?
They could have spent five minutes on Twitter and found better ideas. They could have read free erotica on Kindle Unlimited. They could have gone to AO3.
Ana does a good job of pointing out the glaring holes in the story, none of which individually disprove it (the unlikely happens every day) but collectively beggar disbelief.

So rather than debunk it, I'm going to focus on how lazy, unimaginative, and just... I mean...
And it's a combination of things here.

One is that they think their side really is that gullible, or will play along even if not exactly fooled.

The other is, I think they really do think people fake these allegations all the time, so they do think it's that easy.

So a thing about HBO paywalling Sesame Street that jumps out at me is the idea of using the characters to develop more entertainment, including late night shows geared for adults:

HBO is trying to hack its own Muppets franchise out of the Sesame Street Muppets.
Disney+ is going to have Muppets, but 21st attempts to leverage the Muppet franchise have basically shown there is an enduring hunger for Muppet content but it's proven difficult to actually pull it off.
Meanwhile, the Sesame Street Muppets and Elmo in particular have had a persistent, ongoing pop culture presence with merchandise, viral movie parody videos, etc. They're familiar to both children and adults with children in a way that's far less nostalgia-tinged.

LRT: Headline writing isn't the only thing wrong with journalism but a culture shift in how headlines are written would honestly solve a lot and make much of the stuff it doesn't fix less pressing.
Whenever I talk about the problem of headline writing, I get someone telling me, "You don't understand, they write them certain ways to grab people's attention and for SEO. It's the standard in the industry."

I do understand that. It's part of the problem.
I mean, it's the "most talked-about offender" because it's the most talked about newspaper, not because it handles headlines uniquely.

The LRT was about WaPo, so frequently the Gallant to NYT's Goofus in terms of papers of record in popular imagining.

Here is the thing about Scorcese disputing the Marvel movies are cinema:

Paper is paper.

Paper is a medium on which you can write something of profound importance, like a mathematical description of some aspect of the universe, or a declaration of rights.
On the same paper, you could also make something entertaining, like a comic book. People might find meaning in the comic, too. They may find beauty and truth and something that speaks to them, but it's still a comic book.

Which is fine.
Now, if film is paper, then Scorcese is drawing comic books and Disney is hiring people to make comic books, and Scorcese thinks his comic books are better or more important or show more craft.

But he's still making comic books.

Hapless conservative smear merchants Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman claim they’ll reveal the Ukraine whistleblower’s name at a 12 pm press conference today in Burkman’s driveway. It’s worth noting they’re prolific liars, and Wohl is facing a felony charge over an earlier scheme.
Given the Wohl / Burkman propensity for lying, I probably won’t be tweeting much, if at all, from today’s press conference. Notably everyone in the neighborhood has put their garbage out for the day — the last time Wohl had an event here, it was interrupted by a garbage truck.

I’m here at the Jacob Wohl / Jack Burkman press conference, which is being held in a driveway.
Jacob Wohl has claimed his Buttigieg “accuser” Hunter Kelly will likely be at the press conference, even though he’s recanted and said Wohl and Burkman made it all up. I asked Kelly whether he’d be here and he responded with a series of 😂 emojis.
The Wohl press conference appears to have been delayed by a loud garbage truck collecting trash behind us.

Today I watched the press conference conducted by Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman today. They claim to have a credible witness who says that Mueller raped her in 2010. Since some of you may not have seen it or followed the story, I thought I’d comment.
The claim is that on the week of Aug 2, 2010, Mueller met Carolyne Cass, a 25-year-old fashion designer in a bar, forcibly took her to his room and raped her. Other than the date range and some details of the story, they provided only one piece of corroborating evidence.
According to them, a friend of Cass observed what occurred in the bar. However, they did not give that witness’s name, so there are only two things the media can do to follow up; call Cass and hope she’ll talk to them, and check Mueller’s itinerary for that week to verify.

Jacob Wohl, Jack Burkman: Woman Accusing Robert Mueller of Rape is Credible. Before writing this off, consider: the woman MSM brought out claiming she was offered money is NOT this alleged victim, this women has signed a sworn affidavit and has never voted
She’s also got a corroborating witness, has the date, time and place of the attack, and recalls all details clearly (which means they can be investigated and verified or refuted).
Also note: the corroborating witness allegedly SAW Robert Mueller go up the hotel room with the victim and talked to her afterwards about it. So out of the gate we have 1000% more credibility than anyone the Democrats threw at Kavanaugh.
