Apparently women focusing on men’s fatal violence against women is:
- ick
- transphobic
- disgusting bigotry
- pretty ew
- taking away the humanity of non-women
- wow yikes.
I’ve been commemorating women killed by men for almost 9 years. I’ve read about, mourned the deaths of and recorded the names of well over 1000 women.

I’ve worked with and for women victim-survivors of domestic and sexual violence including prostitution for 29 years.
29 years. Probably longer than a good number of those seeking to point out how icky and ew my work is have been alive if their infantilised language is anything to go by.

I wonder what they are seeking to do wit their pointy jeering circle? Shut me up? Intimidate me? Stop me?
I was driving a mini-bus helping women to collect their possessions under the noses of their snivelling (at that moment) abusers when I was 25 years old. I was holding back domestic violence perpetrators at refuge doors, marching punters and dealers out of women’s hostels,
comforting crying and confused children, holding babies while frightened and shattered women tried to fix their lives back together, cleaning out and painting refuge bedrooms for women to move in to, listening to sobbing and shaking and determined and angry voice after voice.
Just playing some small part, directly or indirectly, in by now literally 1000s of women recovering and moving on from men’s violence .....

.... and a handful of keyboard warriors want to bring me down.

Bring it on.
Please don’t think I’m asking for thanks, support or recognition. It’s a bloody privilege to have been able to make the choices that I have.
I’m just sharing my slight irritation and bemusement at these numpties.
And I genuinely laughed out loud at young Jess, in her righteous indignation, taking it upon herself to bring my transgressions and misdemeanours to the attention of other women. Oh pet, do you think they didn’t know?
