THREAD - HOW TO BETTER PROTECT YOUR TWITTER EXPERIENCE

Users should be aware that accounts are being hacked. I don't follow red players but I assume it's a non-partisan effort based on information I have gathered.

So this thread is about what you can do to protect yourself.
Passwords - Rotate them every 90 days, minimum. I rotate mine every 30-45. Make them strong, do not use personal information, dates, names, pets, etc.

Do not participate in threads about 'your first car' or 'first pet's name' those are password reset questions.
Twitter has 2FA (Two Factor Authentication), ENABLE IT, USE IT.

It ties your Twitter to a secondary check before permitting a logon, usually through an SMS or Email.

If I have your password, and not your phone, I can't logon.

You know I tried and can change the password.
If you do not game on your PC, and do not need Windows for specialized applications that are Windows specific, consider making a switch to Linux.

Put simply, it does all of the same stuff, lowers your attack platform as most targets are Windows based.

If you do use Windows...
DO NOT USE Commercial AV/FW products. That INCLUDES McAfee, Norton, Kapersky, etc.

Use the Windows provided tools, keep your system up to date, and scan it regularly. Keep the FireWall ON, and do not blindly enable applications internet access without verifying the source.
If you're using Microsoft EDGE, Install FireFox, or Chrome if you are part of the Chromeverse.

Install AdBlock Plus, and NoScript extensions, and learn how to use them. They prevent scripts from blindly running on websites you haven't permitted, block ads and some tracking.
Every now and then, it's a good idea to hit your Twitter settings and deactivate all of your devices tethered to your account.

It will force you to relog on the ones you use but will eliminate devices you are no longer using and don't need logged in.
Do not use 3rd party tools to aggregate your Twitter data.

You have no idea how your data is being used, and open yourself up to another avenue of attack.

If someone can compromise a site you've given access to your Twitter account THEY have access to your Twitter.
Hacked accounts are sending out malicious links via DMs. So the accounts you receive the link from are legitimate followers, friends and family.
