We keep being told, by grouse moor owners and even conservation bodies, that burning the land is good for wildlife. They *could not be more wrong*.

What makes this even more groteque is that it's happening inside a national park: @northyorkmoors. I was there recently, and it's one big killing field. The lowlands are crammed with pheasants, the uplands crammed with grouse. And I found these moles hanging from a fence
