I think the whole culture war idea is a bit of a mislabeling, it's a war between the limbic system and the prefrontal cortex. Ego manifestations will always be caught between dorsal and ventral vagus.
The contention of temperamental differences dissipate isn't the only cognitive pattern available, the prefrontal cortex leveraging abstraction. In a definitive sense higher order problem solving must implement multiple perspectives at multiple levels of resolution.
Whether this exists in an individual or group cognitive framework is less important than the fact that it exists, the analysis are structural, not just volume of data points. Gravitational center doesn't necessarily influence domain boundary in a linear manner. #longtail
