1. A quick tutorial on how to fit a TCXO into the cheapest available Octagon LNB. Start by removing the plastic covers - no need to remove the "front" piece.
2. Remove the white sealant (silicone? glue?) and remove all screws using TORX screwdriver. Make sure you've removed all of them - I've almost missed the one next to "F" connector.
3. Use a knife to cut through the sealant around the top section and gently pull on the connector while prying... Try not to bend the probes - or your V and H polarisations won't be 90° apart anymore 😅
4. The PCB is only held in place by the white stuff (easy to remove/cut) and "F" connector centre pin. Apply heat and lift the PCB. Desoldering the crystal requires a lot of heat, additional solder and patience. Hot tweezer would help. Careful - it's easy to rip a pad/trace!
5. Happens to the best of us... well. Now, take some thin wire, get V+ from the regulator, GND from anywhere you like and connect signal output to the top XTAL pin. Voila. Now solder the connector back and reassemble the whole thing...
6. ..and make sure you screw it really tight - too little torque on any of the screws and your LNB is now a wideband oscillator. Thought my TCXO was faulty, but it was a matter of additional 90° on the screws. Check with SDR or spec-an if you have one. Enjoy stability! #eshail2
