The Cummings memo reveals a pattern of strategic errors derived from a nationalist worldview. irishtimes.com/opinion/domini…
They make the same mistakes over and over again: failing to understand other countries' interests, the systems they operate in, or the manner in which they change the balance of power.
Those errors are based on the ignorance and false suppositions of nationalism.
That's the historical irony Cummings would have been better served by: that nationalists are really shit at advancing the interests of their nation.

It's clearly wrong to say that all the noises coming from Europe are theatre. If there weren't proposals that could potentially work for them, they wouldn't be doing this.
But the standard problem remains that it's hard to imagine anything acceptable to EU that would also be acceptable to DUP/ERG.
And a further incentive problem. If Johnson isn't sure he'll get it through Commons, the worst thing he could do would be to try, fail, then go for elections.

I'm not sure I've ever read more insane commentary about a film than I have about the Joker.
Strangely enough for me, it's coming from some of the groups of people I most like: film reviewers, comics nerds and leftie-liberal types.
Strangely unnerving to see so many people unable to make a distinction about showing why a character would do the things they do and validating or justifying it.

I'm increasingly convinced by this argument (we discuss it at length in new @RemainiacsCast episode out tomorrow). Holding a referendum before an election makes it easier to lose.
@RemainiacsCast There's strong counter argument (made by @sturdyAlex in podcast & also Blair yday, but Alex obvs more influential): holding election first turns it into a de-facto no-deal vs People's Vote referendum, but with all the imbalances of FPTP and other issues affecting result.
Think that's a really strong argument. I don't hold my view on the sequencing very strongly. But my instinct is that you need an electoral mandate to hold a referendum and that that also helps weaken the Leave campaign during it.

2. Before I worked at Epic Games, I worked at several companies that are no longer around. They all failed. In fact, hundreds of video game companies have failed over the last 20 years. We are surrounded by more failures than successes.

I want to talk about abortion and BC from the perspective of the 70s and what we knew. BC was difficult to get and I very well remember living in MPLS and going to my 1st gyno appt, which was like the Spanish Inquisition.
I was asked all kinds of ? about why I wanted BC and how long I had been having sex with my boyfriend, which was 3 yrs. Then I was asked if we were thinking of marriage, and at that time that was a YES.
I was the last of 8 kids and my Mother was 43 when she had me. In my 50's my cousin, who was like my older sister, told me that she had heard my mother tried to abort me several times. I was not surprised. I knew I was not wanted and kinda given to my aunt.

in geekery -- in all tool use beyond a certain point, but my focus here is on the modern software development synthesis -- we confront problems that have a size that is "too big to eat all at once".
this is hardly news. human beings have been solving problems that were too big solve in one go since well before recorded history. yuval harari argues convincingly that this is because of our unique ability to form shared imaginary worlds. (francisco varela also argued thus.)
