I'm not sure I've ever read more insane commentary about a film than I have about the Joker.
Strangely enough for me, it's coming from some of the groups of people I most like: film reviewers, comics nerds and leftie-liberal types.
Strangely unnerving to see so many people unable to make a distinction about showing why a character would do the things they do and validating or justifying it.
If we were to apply this elsewhere, we'd lose all the most interesting stories and characters. It really is completely baffling.
Also, for comics nerds: That scene where he dances down the stairs. That's him. For real. That's the fucking Joker. We've seen great interpretations of the character on screen before, but never really something that approximated the comics. That was it.
I'm still of the view that, despite the bizarre kerfuffle at the moment, this film will come to be considered a classic.
