This study claims economists are bad communicators on Twitter because they use more big words than scientists do.

But I think that just might reflect the fact that economists use Twitter for technical academic discussions more than scientists do.

You can argue that by keeping things too academic, economists are leaving econ communication to think tankers, pundits, and political shills.

But there's not necessarily a trade-off there - you can tweet about research AND tweet to the public in simpler terms, if you want.
Also, econ is just much less certain than science.

We know a lot about how gravity works. We don't know a lot about how recessions work.

When you have less certainty, it's good to evangelize less.

In recent years, Latin America has declined as a source of immigrants, while the Middle East and Africa have increased. This is exactly what you'd expect from both population and economic growth trends.
The great Mexican emigration boom is over. Mexicans are staying home these days.
Given the fertility drops in the Middle East, we can expect to see emigration from that region trail off in the coming decade, especially if the wars die down.

10 or 15 years from now, Africa will be the big source of international migration.

By 11:30pm, police told some media that over 100 protesters had been arrested on 9/29. That would be the largest single-day number of protest arrests since 148 on 8/5 & put arrest total over 1,656. No word on number of arrests Friday evening yet.
Many of the 9/29 arrests occurred in 2 swoop&grab police actions: 1 on Harcourt Rd a little before 5pm in which at least 37 were detained & 1 on Queensway at about 5:30 involving dozens of detentions.
4 were arrested outside of Sogo, Causeway Bay before 2pm. People Power leader Tam Tak-chi was also arrested there just after 2. W Ventus Lau's arrest at 6am today, now 18 #HK protest & political leaders have been arrested 21 times (Andy Chan, Keith Fong & Ventus Lau 2x each).

Thread - As we expect another huge turnout for the anti-extradition bill protest in #HK, police and protesters are already on standby mode in Causeway Bay.
Once again, East Point Road becomes the center of the protest, where pro-democracy political parties and organizations already set up their booths and start engaging protesters and passersby through loudspeakers.
Lots of anger are aimed at the Hong Kong police, who have already deployed large amount of personnel along East Point Road.
