Ending junk food marketing is the bread and butter and must be a priority for Government. This means tv advertising, personalised online adverts and sports sponsorship,
Great to see plain packaging of confectionary - a flagship ippr Policy - included. Voluntary reformulation has not worked with pitiful industry performance so far. This justifies Government intervention.
But what is really pleasing is the framing. Obesity is a cruel social inequality with huge health consequences. It’s not about blame or choice.
so policy must be about taking collective responsibility for what has become a pro-obesity environment.
Huge onus now on Government to act boldly. This means standing strong against some powerful lobbying and following the evidence based approach our top Doctor has identified. Time to solve obesity, as she says.
