Great conversation between @gtconway3d & @PreetBharara on Stay Tuned: cafe.com/stay-tuned-dia…
In it, Conway mentions a fascinating anecdote from this article in the @NewYorker about Mark Burnett, the creator of The Apprentice: newyorker.com/magazine/2019/…
Basically, Trump would usually be unprepared for the show, "with little grasp of who had performed well."

And so, he'd randomly fire people on a whim.
This forced the editors to “reverse engineer” the episode.

They'd scour "hundreds of hours of footage" to find moments where the candidate plausibly screwed up "in an attempt to assemble an artificial version of history in which Trump’s shoot-from-the-hip decision made sense."
Hearing Conway retell this story, I thought:

This is what's happening w/ the Syria decision. Trump made this impulsive decision on his own & now we're watching the interagency reverse engineer a reason for it.

State, DOD & the IC are performing the role of Apprentice editors.
