Jennine Capó Crucet, an author and prof, was invited to Georgia Southern University to discuss her book “Make Your Home Among Strangers”. At the talk, some students accused her of being biased against white people.

So they burned her book.

Also, the video of her lecture has been removed and a second talk has been cancelled.

I want to be very clear: Events like this (well, okay I can't think of any other events like this, but events of this nature) are EXTREMELY RARE. They should be taken seriously, but not blown out of proportion. Not even when the people doing it are your political opponents.

Republican lawmakers and conservative lobbyists, working in conjunction with ALEC, have launched a multi-state campaign to ban anti-Israeli rhetoric and activism in public schools and universities.

The point man in this campaign is Randy Fine, a Florida Republican representative and the man who sponsored HB 741, which banned anti-Israeli speech in Florida's schools last May.

Yeah, Florida added religion to the list of protected characteristics in its ed anti-discrimination law. Good! But in doing so, it uses the IHRA definition anti-Semitism (e.g. "Applying a double standard to Israel", "Delegitimizing Israel").

This needs to end. None of these "Renaissance Paintings" look like Renaissance paintings. None of them. At best, they look like warmed over Jacques-Louis David paintings, and even then not really. I will die on this hill.

This piece offers the strongest argument yet that Batya Ungar-Sargon either lied about being deplatformed at Bard or was mistaken about what happened. It joins a similar piece by Kenneth Stern, as well as numerous testimonials by others at the event. forward.com/opinion/letter…
Lying about being deplatformed is (probably) very uncommon, but it does happen. Here’s one likely example. Considering the currency that it can get you in the Campus Free Speech game, no doubt there are others as well.

But the damage in this case is done. Ungar-Sargon’s account has been widely spread, and the people who are typically quite eager to debunk alleged incidents of campus hate now seem strangely uncurious.

Today, I will try my hand at live tweeting insights from "A #Home of One's Own", a two-day #researchworkshop on socially & economically #marginalised women's experiences of and negotiations with #genderinequalities in #informalurbanhousing in India.
This workshop has been organised by #JadavpurUniversity (School of Women's Studies), #RabindraBharathiUniversity (Centre for Women's Studies) and #Parichiti, a women's organisation. All three are research partners on a #GCRF project funded by @GoldsmithsUoL.
Since Oct 2018, I have collaborated with Dr. Henrike Donner, who is leading it, to develop #researchcollaborations with #educational and #development organisations in India to implement a pilot study on #genderurbanhousing. This workshop marks the end of the first phase.

🥇These members of the 115th Congress didn’t think about the political ramifications, their reputations or the timing; they just voted honorably not to table the measure to impeach a prez who is clearly not abiding by the law or representing our country the way it deserves to be.
🏆Most of these members of the 115th Congress are still in Congress, but some are Governors or in new positions. One member, Louise Slaughter D-NY, sadly died in 2018. More on her later.
