This report combines cherry-picked data, faulty analysis and wildly inaccurate diagnosing of both the problem and its solutions. In addition to getting the fundamentals of homelessness wrong, your policy prescriptions completely miss the mark. 1/
Deregulation, increased policing and greater “self-sufficiency” won’t end homelessness - affordable homes, and the federal subsidies that make them possible, will. 2/
Homelessness in CA is a crisis, like in many other areas of the country. Federal action to solve the crisis is long overdue, but President Trump and @SecretaryCarson are clearly not acting in good faith to end homelessness. 3/

Further efforts to criminalize or otherwise harm people experiencing homelessness are unconscionable. The solution to homelessness is affordable homes – not, as Trump is considering, criminalization, homeless sweeps into increasingly unsafe areas...1/
And warehousing people in untenable and unsustainable conditions, all proposals that the White House is seriously considering. 2/
The one thing that all people experiencing homelessness have in common is lack of an affordable home. But the Trump administration has - time and again - proposed cutting or eliminating programs that end homelessness. 3/

The lowest income people are often the hardest hit by disasters – in part because they are least financially able to evacuate prior to a disaster. 1/
Evacuating is expensive – it requires a car with a full tank of gas, it means missed days of work. If shelters are full, it means needing $ for a motel room. Even the need to have a credit card at hotel check-in can be a barrier for low income people. 2/
Rent was due today for many low-income families. Paychecks and savings accounts are depleted, leaving very little for extra unexpected expenses like an evacuation. Seniors and people with disabilities can have an even harder time: americamagazine.org/politics-socie… 3/

1. Okay, so this is my second thread about our big story on fast warming in the U.S. Here, I want to address the rather dramatic findings about winter that we report washingtonpost.com/graphics/2019/…
2. In the Northeast, we found that winters tend to be warming up the fastest. In fact, we found that this is something present across much (although not all) of the country.
3. And for our fastest warming states in the lower 48 -- Rhode Island and New Jersey -- they would not be at or near 2 degrees Celsius (in NJ's case) if they were not well over that level of warming during the 3 months of winter (December, January, February).

@dradambanks The entire valuation makes no economic sense. Racism is central to the sys of housing valuation (& racist allocation of communal resources.) *Plus, as a widget, it is used, deteriorating, its systems wear out, grow less efficient/obsolete over time. Why shd it increase in value?
@dradambanks Banks make more $ based on the loan amt. The reason GOp/Reagan privatized public housing was so the banks cd double dip on the financial products: a) interest on the construction loan, then b) tax write offs for capital supplied to build projects. This also adds cost btw..
@dradambanks This entire system built around housing construction, valuation, its financing is a racist based scam... and I’m saying tht as an architect in housing for 30 yrs. I see the financial proformas, the budgets. The banks and developers make out the best — not residents, tenants.
