Further efforts to criminalize or otherwise harm people experiencing homelessness are unconscionable. The solution to homelessness is affordable homes – not, as Trump is considering, criminalization, homeless sweeps into increasingly unsafe areas...1/
And warehousing people in untenable and unsustainable conditions, all proposals that the White House is seriously considering. 2/
The one thing that all people experiencing homelessness have in common is lack of an affordable home. But the Trump administration has - time and again - proposed cutting or eliminating programs that end homelessness. 3/
If they were serious about ending homelessness they’d consult w/experts who’ve studied & had success reducing or eliminating homelessness – success backed by years of research and application. But guess who they sent to LA to “study” homelessness? 4/
Reps from FEMA, Department of Homeland Security, General Services Administration, Department of Justice, the Domestic Policy Council and recent political appointees at HUD, among others.

Guess which agency is notably absent from the delegation?
5/
Anyone from the United States Interagency on Homelessness (USICH), the very federal agency designed to gather and apply expertise on reducing and ending homelessness. They weren’t invited to this “fact-finding” mission on homelessness. 6/
Homelessness in CA is a crisis, as it is in other areas of the country, and it demands urgent action at the fed/state/local levels. But Trump and his administration are clearly and obviously not acting in good faith to end homelessness. 7/
Instead, the president and @SecretaryCarson have repeatedly taken actions that would worsen homelessness in our country. 8/
They’ve proposed:

- drastically shrinking/eliminating federal programs that keep lowest-income people affordably housed

- tripling rents for lowest-income subsidized residents

- raising rents for all other subsidized tenants...

9/
- evicting 100,000 people, including 55,000 American children, from subsidized housing

- allowing homeless shelters to discriminate and refuse shelter to transgender and other LGBTQ people.

Among MANY other things.

10/
Don’t be fooled. This latest effort will be more of the same: demonizing those with low incomes and failing to do what’s really needed - invest in affordable homes.

We won’t stand for it.
