What I genuinely don't get is how Boris is immune to the fear of looking like an UTTER bellend in front of his peers.

He's such a vain man.

How is he not terrified of what an absolute purple helmet this makes him look like on the international stage?
How do you walk into a summit or meeting with ANYONE on an international level after this and not know that they think you're a fucking manbaby?

Yes. It's about who is perceived as the target. Blocking roads is a PASSIVE attract on public transport/commuters. They're collateral damage so can feel like a victim, not the target.

Targeting the Tube/DLR is an ACTIVE attack on PT users. Hence why they get angry.
Because they've done nothing wrong. They've already opted for the Greenest possible option (whether that was the motive or not) so feel punished for doing the right thing already.

Now the obvious question: Why would anyone do this?

Well for starters it's still better than a coding job back home. My first job building websites was for $7/hour.

That was in high school.
I eventually got better jobs, yes. Mostly thanks to moving into freelancing, being picky about clients, and choosing to work for foreign clients (primarily US startup land) whenever possible.

That got me to about $70,000/year. It was great. Lived like a king.

Hey #OpenEd people, get ready for a rant.
I just learned that my campus bookstore is going with Cengage Unlimited. The "Netflix for Textbooks." One price ($120) per student per semester, thru the bookstore. I have *feelings* about this, but I don't see much written about it, so here goes. 1/
Cengage Unlimited is billed as a cost-saving mechanism, which is fine. But this is assuming that it gets wide faculty adoption, which isn't a given. Otherwise, it's just another cost on top of traditional textbooks. 2/

My mother had an experience this weekend that, if I didn’t know her, I would swear was not true.

It all started when a large brown rat came into the kitchen.
The useless family dog, Rufus, alerted my parents to an alien mammalian presence late Saturday night via a combination of almost-pointing and high-maintenance panic.

It was coming from the pantry.
