if you deny the existence of the ruling ideology, you can more easily present it as but an expression of the natural order, of how things always were and have to be. That's the aim of alt-centrists like Klein: to feign objectivity while advancing a destructive political project 
and he's exactly wrong. Philip Mirowski, a leading scholar on neoliberalism and its history, has observed that its feigned market fetishism is but a thin disguise for a state fetishism, though it conceives of the state as having to serve the interests of the ruling classes
