There is no universe in which AWS splitting from Amazon is bad for AWS. The retail operation is a boat anchor around its neck in some ways.

The DeepRacer was announced at reInvent last year and currently isn’t in stock until January of 2020.
And think—if you took “Amazon” naming out of the AWS universe you’d get to start over again with better service names for every service!

CloudWatch Anomaly Detection is of the devil, but only if you use it wrong. A thread:
So CloudWatch Anomaly Detection launched today, and is generally awesome. See @jeffbarr's blog post at aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/new-… for a great overview.
For the impatient, this feature is basically using Exponential Smoothing (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponenti…) buried under the umbrella of Machine Learning to develop confidence intervals around CloudWatch metrics.

Revealing thread on the crap deal we're handing down to younger gens. We've stripped the institutions for profit and left husks behind. It's time to recapitalize the things that make life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness possible and extend that promise to all Americans.
As a GenXer, I'm caught somewhat in between. On the one hand, my college was relatively cheap, so I didn't have to start my adult life with an anchor around my neck. On the other hand, as a NTT college instructor and writer, my employment as been as a member of the precariat.
Millennials got the full double whammy. I'm fine, tho if I'd been born 20 years earlier with the same career, I'd be far better than fine. I'd be a downright wealthy mofo. (Though I also probably would've figured out how to work less.) The odds of even achieving fine have dropped

Cis folks, I don't need you to be able to imagine what it feels like to be misgendered as a trans person. I just need you to believe us when we say that it's painful.
I don't get misgendered anymore, which I feel incredibly grateful for. But I still have nightmares where I am. I'm always trapped in a room and shouting at people, and it feels as intense and visceral as it did years ago when it was my daily life.
I've never heard of a cisgender person having a nightmare about someone using the wrong pronouns. And that's what I'm trying to tell you: You're not going to get it. Because it damages me on a level that it almost certainly won't for you.
