David Brooks is supposed to be a middle of the road high fantasy author, one of the many mediocre Davids of sf&f. I'm not saying that Dr. Beckett leaping into his body and publishing A Storm of Soppressatta and Capicola would fix our timeline, but it would set some things right
The man who can write the words "Insensitively, I led her into a gourmet sandwich shop." was not born to write about life on this world or any other that has ever existed. He is heart is on the otherwhere. He was meant to chronicle the things that never were and never could be.
David Brooks, please quit your job and send a fantasy manuscript around. I guarantee you get a good deal on name recognition alone. No one will read the name "David Brooks" over a submission and not be *sure* you aren't well-established.
I know you all think this is my weirdest bugbear, but there is a twist in the fabric of the universe. David Brooks is living someone else's life and we are all worse for it.
