Wearing a Waffle House hat and a chef's jacket to work tomorrow is fantastic, but being part of a team that raises money for a food bank is even better. Food Court and Silent auction has raised as much as $65,000 in a few hours. Today I'm making loads of applesauce (Fuji apples). 
Guests create a plate of food and then go to the Northwest Harvest table to pay "what they think is right." The event's approach is based on Cialdini's reciprocity tendency. Guests are also introduced to a fabulous charity for future direct gifts of cash, food and volunteer time.
This annual fund raising event is a small part of employees and the company match raising $163 million for nonprofits and schools in 2018. Employee participation in the giving program rose to 74 percent in 2018, supporting 21,785 nonprofits and schools. A tradition since 1983.
